Óbidos — A Medieval Town Fit for a Queen

Depart Lisbon for Óbidos, a beautifully preserved walled town traditionally associated with the queens of Portugal. Step through its historic gateway and explore a delightful maze of cobbled lanes, whitewashed houses, colourful borders and flower-filled corners.

Walk along the picturesque main street towards the castle, discovering charming squares, traditional shops and glimpses of the surrounding countryside. Before leaving, perhaps sample the town’s celebrated ginjinha, a sour cherry liqueur often served in a chocolate cup.

Alcobaça — Royal Love and Cistercian Grandeur

Continue to Alcobaça Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Portugal’s greatest medieval monuments. Founded in the 12th century under the patronage of Portugal’s first king, this Cistercian masterpiece impresses with the soaring proportions and restrained elegance of its Gothic church.

Discover the intricately carved tombs of King Pedro I and Inês de Castro, whose tragic love story became one of the most enduring legends in Portuguese history. Explore the monastic spaces and gain an insight into the religious community that helped shape the region for centuries. Monastery admission included.

Nazaré — Ocean Views and Free Time for Lunch

Travel to Nazaré, a traditional fishing town where maritime customs remain an essential part of local identity. Its sweeping sandy beach, colourful boats and lively waterfront offer an inviting introduction to Portugal’s Atlantic coast.

Enjoy free time for lunch, with the opportunity to discover local fish and seafood specialities in one of the town’s many restaurants. Afterwards, ascend to Sítio, the historic clifftop quarter, for magnificent views over the beach and ocean. Hear about the traditions surrounding Our Lady of Nazaré and the nearby waters that have made the town internationally famous for giant-wave surfing. Lunch is not included.

Batalha — A Masterpiece Celebrating Portugal’s Independence

Continue to the Monastery of Batalha, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built to commemorate the Portuguese victory at the Battle of Aljubarrota in 1385.

Admire an extraordinary combination of Gothic architecture and elaborate Manueline decoration. Within its monumental spaces, discover the Founder’s Chapel, the resting place of King João I, Queen Philippa of Lancaster and several of their children, including Prince Henry the Navigator. Beautiful cloisters and richly carved stonework reveal the artistic ambition behind this enduring symbol of Portuguese independence. Monastery admission included.

Fátima — A Place of Faith and Reflection

Complete your journey in Fátima, one of the world’s most important Catholic pilgrimage destinations. The sanctuary developed following the reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary to three shepherd children in 1917.

Visit the vast sanctuary precinct, see the Chapel of the Apparitions and discover the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary. Enjoy time for personal reflection, prayer or simply to appreciate the distinctive atmosphere of a place that welcomes visitors from across the world.
